About Unst, Yell & Fetlar

Unst, Yell and Fetlar are the most northerly of the Shetland Islands. Situated right at the far north of Scotland, ponies from these 3 windswept islands are real, authentic Shetland Ponies.

Unst is the most northerly island of the 3 and is as close to Bergen as it is to Aberdeen (160 miles). The weather in these northern isles can be be extremely varied with long summer days with very little daylight to fierce winds and driving snow in the winter. One of the reasons why the Shetland Pony had to be so sturdy and unyielding.
